Experience a journey of contrast from ocean to Outback by following the trail blazed by John McDouall Stuart, the Victorian explorer who was the first person to cross Australia south to north and back again.
McDouall Stuart was born in Scotland and studied civil engineering before emigrating Down Under. From 1858-61 he led six expeditions to look for minerals and grazing land. He was famed for travelling rapidly with just a few packhorses, and for the way he cared for his companions.
This 22-day self-drive trip on Explorers Way takes you from Adelaide to Darwin or vice versa and is a showcase for authentic Australia. You will see iconic wildlife, visit Outback pubs and meet characters you will never forget.
Highlights of the holiday include flights with award-winning Singapore Airlines to Darwin (with complimentary Singapore stopover) and exploring Nitmiluk Gorge, Alice Springs and iconic Uluru. You will visit the opal-mining area of Coober Pedy – Stuart was there but did not realise what was under his feet – and relax on a four-wheel-drive wildlife tour of Kangaroo Island, off Adelaide.
